LS02 | Lunch session | Wednesday, 21 April 2010 Session LS02/room 3 | | 12:30 14:00 | World Alliance for Wound and Lymphoedema Care (WAWLC) | | Chairs: Hubert Vuagnat, President, Swiss Association for Wound Care & Head of Division, Geneva University Hospitals, Switzerland Kingsley Asiedu, Responsible for Buruli Ulcer and Yaws Programmes, Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases, World Health Organization, Switzerland | | Over the past three decades, the world has seen tremendous medical advances in modern wound care and lymphoedema management, due to new scientific knowledge, techniques, and materials. These advances have occurred mainly in developed countries, whereas little attention has been given to wound care and lymphoedema management in the majority of resource-poor nations. The necessity of basic wound care education has been emphasized by many national and international wound care societies, NGOs and the WHO, resulting in the foundation of the WAWLC. This session will review the WAWLC mission and current initiatives, supported by two practical examples of wound care implementation in Cameroon. | | Wound Care in Low-Resource Settings | | Hubert Vuagnat, President, Swiss Association for Wound Care & Head of Division, Geneva University Hospitals Switzerland | | Wound Care Implementation in a District Hospital of Cameroon: The Buruli Programme | | Eric Comte, Medical Referent for Malaria and Buruli ulcers, Médecins sans Frontières, Switzerland | | Wound Care in Cameroun: A Teach-the-Teacher Experience | | Carolyn Wyndham-White and Dominique Bidet-Dazin, Senior Lecturers, University of Applied Sciences & HES Geneva, Nursing Department, Switzerland | | Limits of Reconstructive Surgery in Resource-Poor Settings | | Brigitte Pittet-Cuenod, Vice-Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Switzerland | Background docs Session reports | News by Session Session Reports by Themes | Quotes For Health | Health is a universal human aspiration and a basic human need. - CSDH interim statement 2007 | | | |
