General Information

Geneva Health Forum Outreach

At each biennial event, the Geneva Health Forum aims to increase access to the wealth of information provided by the session speakers, poster presenters, the Forum marketplace, and the input directly from participants. This began in 2006 with the session reports, PowerPoint presentations, and the abstract book on the GHF internet site, as well as webcasting of a number of sessions (notably to francophone African countries). In 2008, the GHF provided again the latter but added to the list the video recording of almost all plenary sessions as well as a live interactive video-conference with the Global Health Council in Washington D.C. The website also provided a vast range of background documents for each session (in collaboration with the UK-based institution, IDS). In addition, both editions of the GHF provided substantial support in the form of travel grants to participants from low- and lower-middle income countries. But this is not enough.

Geneva Health Forum 2010 Hubs

The upcoming editions of the Geneva Health Forum will, in addition to live webcasting of all plenary sessions (available to anyone with an internet connection) include a system of 'hubs' that will offer greater access to the Forum and participation from those unable to attend. The system of hubs consists of the following:

  • Any entity can sign up as a hub, provided that an internet connection and a space for a certain number of 'spectators' can feasibly see and hear the webcast sessions.
  • The Geneva Health Forum provides access to certain parallel sessions (two sessions per day) to all registered hubs.
  • Certain hubs will have the possibility to have session speakers participate in the session panels and also to have their audiences interact in the questions after the presentations.
  • These 'interactive parallel sessions' will be restricted to the hubs but will be freely available on the web to all after the conference.

The GHF Hubs provide worldwide antennas for the biennial events, increase access to the Forum itself, and add a critical mass 'from the field' to the debates at the Forum. While nothing can replace the actual physical attendance of participants, the Hubs allow access to those that will not or cannot attend in person.

Registration for Hubs is now closed.

Quotes For Health
quoteSo I can't show you how, exactly, health care is a basic human right. But what I can argue is that no one should have to die of a disease that is treatable.quote
